Harry David was established in 1910 when Samuel Rosenberg (Seattle hotelier) bought 240 acres of pear orchards in Oregon. The company had been taken over by his sons - Harry and David after his death in 1914. It is known to customers to begin business relating to mail order direct marketing of fruits. It is famous for Fruit-of-the-Month Club. It is also specialized for holiday gift towers and high-end gift baskets. The company added Jackson & Perkins (mail order rose marketer) in 1966 which again had been sold for $49 million to an outsider group of investors in 2007. In 2004, the company was purchased by Wasserstein & Company, a private investment firm.
