The Benihana franchises and also owns nearly 116 Japanese cuisine restaurants around the globe. The Benihana restaurant was founded by Rocky Aoki in the year 1964 thus bringing different types of Japanese cuisines to its customers. In the year 1976, the company acquired Hardwicke Companies and worked as partners. This relationship got ended in the year 1980. In the year 1982, the company became public and Joel Schwartz was the president of the Benihana Company group. There are still some restaurants branches of the company which are owned privately, and in 1995 the restaurants were combined together to form Benihana Inc.
