Armstrong World Industries, Inc., is an international manufacturer and designer of ceilings and floors. The company was incorporated in 1891 and they operate over thirty-two plants in over eight countries. They are based in the region of Lancaster at Pennsylvania. The company has over 8,500 employees throughout the branches, worldwide. They have their roots in 1860, when Thomas M. Armstrong joined John D. Glass in a business of carving out bottle stoppers from cork. In 1864, they began to brand their corks. Eventually they started to offer written guarantee in the burlap cork bags and slowly they became the largest cork supplier of the world in 1890's.
