They are eventually based in the region of Park Ridge in New Jersey. Walter L. Jacobs is honored to establish the company in 1918. He took initiative to start the operational services of renting a car from Chicago. Over a dozen of Ford cars were launched for the service of car rental. Jacobs sold them to John D. Hertz in 1923, who renamed the company as 'Hertz Drive-Ur-Self System'.
