Lil Champ was founded in 1971 by Julian Jackson. It was a chain of convenience stores. Julian sold the chain to Docks de France, which combined the company with Jiffy Food Stores. The store operated as a whole own subsidiary of French retailer Auchan S.A, while Pantry Inc acquired Lil Champ Food Stores in 1997 with $133 million. However, both of the companies operate independently though they share in bulk buying. After the acquisition took place, Victor Jackson left the business and Eddie Jackson became the chairperson of the company. Pantry Inc, a North-Caroline based convenience store-chain, is owned by Chase Capital Partners and Freeman Spogil & Co.
